When my mum gave birth to me..they were very indecisive as to what name to give me. My mum came up with this brilliant idea of naming me..
Christabel..( so horrible ok? i don't even look like a Christabel..)
Thank God, my grandmother was wise enough to notice that that name..might just get people calling me DING DONG BELL
And then they wanted Cassandra..( Gosh)
Finally, after sleepless nights, they agreed on Cheryl Ann. Which is nice and suits me and I love my name.
BUt But but but..
Since entering primary school, my name has been butchered right left and center and most of the time it sounds awful.
There was silly boys calling me 'Cherry'..and then they call me..'Cheril' and they even misspell my name ..it ranged from Sherly..to Cherly..to Cheryn..
When the teacher called my name during assembly ( for of course winning something..not because of truancy or anything)..and she pronounced it as
SHE-RIL ANN ( as in arne) FER-NAN-DOS
a few guys made fun of me for the next few days, calling me She-rill Arne..it was not funny ok? i threatened to bring my father to scold them!
When Gopi..yes, my Gopi..the one i love and who loves me, when he first met me..he sent me this text
" hie cyrel, how are you?"
to which i replied.."who's cyrel ar? Im cheryl "
arrrgh..Its Cheryl ..Cher ( as in the singer Cher) and Ryl..How hard can it be? Imagine having a name like Geradline ( no, its not Geraldine..its Geradline..pronounced as (Ger-Rad-Lin) susah giler OK? )
My sister has been called all sorts of names..that even when she sees her class teacher frowning at the attendance list, she just knows its her name!
*sigh..the price we pay for having pretty names*
